Description

A cartridge mechanical seal is a pre-assembled sealing unit designed to prevent liquid from leaking along the rotating shaft of pumps and other rotating equipment. Unlike conventional component mechanical seals, a cartridge seal is supplied as a complete assembly, with the rotating and stationary faces, O-rings, springs and other components accurately positioned and set during manufacture.

Cartridge mechanical seals are widely used in centrifugal pumps, multistage pumps, process pumps, water pumps and industrial rotating equipment. They are suitable for applications involving water, oils, chemicals, wastewater, hydrocarbons and other process fluids, depending on the seal materials and operating conditions.

One of the main advantages of a cartridge seal is ease of installation. The factory-set design reduces the need for complicated measuring and adjustment during installation, helping minimise installation errors and downtime. Cartridge seals can also make maintenance and replacement faster, particularly where pumps are frequently serviced.

Different cartridge seal designs are available, including single, double, balanced, unbalanced, component and split configurations. Material combinations such as carbon, silicon carbide, tungsten carbide, stainless steel, Viton, EPDM and PTFE can be selected according to the fluid, temperature, pressure, speed and application.

Cartridge mechanical seals are commonly used in industrial plants, water treatment, mining, food processing, chemical processing, agriculture, manufacturing and general pump maintenance, providing reliable shaft sealing and helping protect pumps from leakage and premature failure.
